Thanks, - will check this. But our problem is that the Unix/Linux world is
changing fast, and there is
just too much around. That is why it is helpfull to stay in touch with each
other.
I think I will repeat something I have said a couple of times now: If someone
with knowledge about
CAD/CAM systems could help out, write a little guiding paper on what core
features would be best
to have, and what kind of integration with Gcode and EMC would be the sound way
to go, then I would
not mind to stay with a simple kind of program, use some time with it, and try to
help out in something
that could end up in something nice.
EMC is nice, but it is only the end of the "production line". So much more could
be achieved if we also could
have some "API" defined, and stayed together on some common ground. At the moment
I hate the idea of using
CAD programs in Windows, - then have to port the thing to Linux and EMC.
I also think that NIST have most of the answers, because this is what they do -
trying to keep some standards.
The other thing I will repeat: I think it is time that someone from NIST came
with a few words, because I feel a bit
uneasy to be writing stuff like this on their network list. I don't know if they
would like us to keep these discussions
in their " backyard" - or if we ought to find another spot.
( We are a bunch of amateurs, while there might be more important people that is
supposed to use this list. I really would like them to comment on this ! )
