Just guessing here...
sounds like a file permission issue. 
Are you logged in as 'root'?
When I untarred and ran the BDI_build script, 
I did it from the console, not KDE environment.

Also this little tidbit is critical, to run the
script you have to type "./BDI_build"
The "./" is important.
