Using DRO data for feedback

Is it possible or has it been done?

I wonder if EMC is structured to use output from a DRO for position
feedback and to generate the phase signals to drive the stepper
motors on my Bridgeport mill which currently has a Bandit I system.

I recently did a BDI install and am tying to understand what I have.
I haven't been able to do any printing because apparently BDI does
not install Printool. I, being new to Linux need to figure out how to
do that.
