newbie question

Hello.
My question is quite simple... I want a clear ReadMe.install file... 
somethig that tells me what to do if I have RedHat 9, kernel version 2.4.20, 
rtai-24.1.11 installed and I want to compile and run EMC... I don't have any 
CNC hardware, I just want to see what EMC can do. Is there a link to such a 
file, or something like that.
