RE: Must Have apps for the next BDI
Hi Paul,
I suspect you're thinking this way already.... But just in case, I'd
like to add the concept that you provide options during install for
minimum / typical / full footprint versions. The minimum would only
install the patched RT kernal, the EMC app (with perhaps yet another
menu to select which version of EMC / IO package ?), and the Tck /
desktop lite stuff necessary for the chosen GUI. Perhaps a "typical"
option could include your choice of desktop and the other "must have"
apps, and a third option would provide for installing all the apps you
package on the disk. Lots of possible permutations on this I
know....but this would at least allow you to satisfy a wider range of
customers, without forcing them to make lots of detailed choices.
Configuration of the .ini files during / post install is another big
area for improvement, but I'll save that for a different thread...:)
I've heard very positive comments on Debian for embedded apps... I think
you've make a good choice, good luck.

Subject: Must Have apps for the next BDI
Hi Folks
Busy working on the next BDI disk - A major departure from previous
versions,
as it will be based on Debian not Red Hat. With over 12,000 packages to
choose from, and nearly 1Gig of space left, I'm looking for some
suggestions. Two categories - Must Have apps, and Would be Nice.
KDE and Gnome desktops will be left out in favour of a light and fast
desktop. The support libraries will still be included so some KDE/Gnome
apps
should still run.
Regards, Paul.
