It is just freqmod.o with encoder feedback. Performance is no better and
potentially worse. The reason I say potentially worse is the way it handles
lost step. Normally a stepper will loose steps when you try to drive it at
too high an RPM. smdromod.o monitors for lost steps and when it occurs adds
the make-up steps in to try and get back to the commanded position. With a
servo that may work. With a stepper that will just push it to a higher RPM
that will have even less torque and more missed steps until you get a follow
error and abort. My though is that smdromod.o should drop the feedrate first
when commanded and actual diverge and then add the steps back in. That would
allow the steppers to actually catch up and no be pushed into a stall.
