Re: BDI TNG
Hi Dean
A standard RH distro will install loads of useless junk along with the core
packages - Customising the comps file alleviates this, and whilst editing
this file, it is a small matter to include the EMC specific packages.
Most of the work involved is in building the kernel, realtime, and EMC
packages - Rolling the distro is a relatively trivial task afterwards.
I know the extras could just be bundled as a tarball, but the green newbie
would not have much of an idea of the steps needed to get from a tarball to a
working EMC. With an RPM, all this can be automated and save a great deal of
time having to constantly answer the same "how do I" questions.
Kickstart is another way of doing things - It has been considered, but this
method has it's own pitfalls.
Regards, Paul.
P.S. Wasn't it Brian Pitt doing the Slackware EMC ??
