I need your advise. I have a 3-axis Cincinnati horizontal milling
machine with an indexical rotary table built in. I have successfully
retrofitted a vertical 3-axis mill complete with automatic tool changer
using the Mektronix control. With the Mektronix , I used a separate
programmable logic controller for the tool changer control and interfaced
the PLC to the Mektronix control. Everything worked great and the result
is a machine that will do everything that a Fanuc can do. I am very
intrigued with the emc control but I wonder if the result will be as
successful as the Mektronix retrofit I completed. There is not a great
deal of price difference but the idea of open architecture is very
appealing. If anyone has done an installation with dc servos that
resulted in a control that not only executed the servo moves but
maintained a professional appearance on the machined part equal to what
you would achieve with a Fanuc control, please contact me.
