Re: Results of RH7.0 -> RH6.2
I wonder if the problem really was that RH6.2 detected that RH7.0 had
previously been installed and so too exception. I'm not familiar with the
mechanics of the installation process, but I am fairly certain that either
existing information is read before installation begins or there is
information left on the boot sector which the installation picks up on. A
couple of times recently I have done fresh installs of RH linux -
repartitioning the drives and reformatting - and have had a message up at
the end of installation telling me that a 'newer version of kde is being
installed - do I want to proceed?'
Perhaps you could try repartitioning the drive and reformatting it again
using a thrid party program - maybe Partition Magic and set the drive up as
a dos drive - before doing the install.
If it is a problem with the processor, you could perhaps try Mandrake 7.x.
For some reason this seems to find and accept more hardware than the RH
distribution it is based on and I'm fairly sure someone has had EMC working
OK with it.
