10k and 25k are similar numbers by some definitins :)

freqmod or steppermod?   

and while the stepper will do that speed happily, how is the
acceleration profile under load? 

Seems to me the time resolution is 2x here, which 
limits the ability to accelerate smoothly.

guess if the motor is big enough it will work.
