Thanks Paul.   That was it.    Steppermod must not have cared about it.
I actually found the problem before you responded.  I must be getting good :)

Been playing with freqmod for some time now.  A refreshing improvement.
Nice to see acceleration and deacceleration.  Feedrate transitions are now
much smoother also.

I've got some tricky g-code that I've generated with the emcprobe program
that I've been working on.

Even with freqmod.o I am still loosing Z axis steps where the path has a steep
change in the Z axis.   

So I am once again resorting to a g-code filter program to insert F.X commands
where the Z drops/rasies quickly.   Still fidling with it.  But I am enjoying 
myself.

Once I get over this hurdle I may make the feedrate adjustment an automatic 
part of the emcprobe program.
