RE: BDI 2.11 Install problem, help please.
My guess is that the problem spoken of is the handling of cr/lf in text
files. I have downloaded EMC source via Windows with CVS and it wont
compile. Running the scripts on Linux print out error messages, such as
'file not found', that have nothing to do with the different text file
line endings, which is the problem. To blame Windows for that shows
emotion. The exact problem happens in reverse - if you CVS the source to
Linux and try to compile on Windows, but in my Windows compiler I get an
error message that says 'text line missing cr/lf'. I don't want to start
an OS war either - but I do take Windows bashing personally and will
respond as needed, happily willing to engage in, and defend my choice,
in any war that may come up.

i dont think we can rule out windows as the culprit, seeing microsoft's
history, i too have seen problems with windows' downloads that linux
handed
well ON the same computer ON the same connection.... but im veering
dangerously close to OS war talk...sorry.....----Dave L.

"Just one warning. Windows can screw up downloaded regular files pretty
bad, but if they are compressed or tarred you should be o.k. I turned
grey and bald
In one week because I used windows to get the sourcefiles."
There is nothing Windows does to screw up downloaded files, it is a
result of the person doing the download not knowing what they are doing.

I am going to try another cd tonight. Is there any way I can pull and
image
off the cd and test it. The only computers I have that have a burners
are
windows using the Adaptec easy CD creator software. And unless I bring
the
linux computer in to work, it does not have direct access to the web.
