Re: problems getting started

The shared memory and some of the IO must be running as root or suid
root. There is an FAQ about this on linuxcnc.org. By following those
directions, I've had a common user running the EMC for quite a while now.

This search to find a parport defined outside of the EMC can be a red
herring. The EMC stuff deals directly with parports without the need for
any intermediate drivers. If you have a parport at 378, and you ask the
emc to use it, it will whether Linux recognizes it or not. Even if you
don't have a parport at an address, and you ask the emc to use it, it
will attempt to. This can cause some estop problems if you are using
bridgeporttask and bridgeportio.
