Have you tried a PCI card yet? I had some trouble with a 3Com ISA that
I could see the LEDs flashing on the back of the recieving machine still no
ping. I bought a $6 PCI 8139 China card worked right off.

Sometimes it simply doesn't pay to bang one's head against a wall.
