Hi Pete

The recommended distro is usually RedHat 6.x - If you use Slackware, there is 
a page documenting Brian Pitt's install in the handbook at 
http://www.linuxcnc.org/handbook/install/zipslack.html
EMC will compile on other distros such as SuSE and Debian, but some extra 
work is required so that all the libraries can found by the makefiles.
