hello;

in the case of gcc-2.96 the easiest way
is to install a different ditribution of
linux that uses egcs-1.1.2 or gcc-2.95.2.

gcc-2.96 is not binary compatible with either
egcs-1.1.2 or gcc-2.95.2. 

using gcc-2.96 to build a linux distribution
was not to smart on redhat's part.
