I've had a lot of trouble with my version (2.95.2) of gcc.  It seems to
trip over some of the stuff in emcsh, iosh, and the ini init (?) file.  You
can find the version number by typing gcc -v .  Will has been changing some
of the code in those files to try to get it to compile better.
