Wow!  I started my retrofit with an Allen-Bradley 7320 (slightly more general
model of the 7360).  It has a 100 Hz servo update rate.  I suspect you get
a LOT of following error whenever it is moving fast.  Using the FF1 parameter
with EMC, I've been able to get following error down to nil even at high
speeds.  I also want to do my lathe as soon as we figure out how to do
the spindle feedback.  I thought the code to do this WAS in EMC, but
I've never proved it.
