Not to sound like a me to echo; but I think it is fair to say that the
proposal put forward does take some time to digest. For those of us
new to EMC, there is a certain amount of background that has to be learned.
That being said, the one thing that keeps coming back in my mind is an
integrated PLC. Nothing fancy of course, just a clean and easy way to
map I/O between devices. The idea being to have the "PLC" update
code handle writting to I/O. Yes you will still have the CNC controller
dealing with its own realtime I/O, this however could take care of
everything else.
The idea of course is that simple I/O updates routines would be called
in the PLC update code to handle actual I/O writing and reading. These
small routines would easily seperated the hardware from the software.
