Another advantage I should have mentioned about using a VFD vs. either
a rotary or static phase converter is that most (all?) VFD's have an
analog input which controls the output frequency. With a bit of work
you could tie this to and DTOA converted and programaticly control
spindle speed. I don't know if EMC supports this right out of the box
but it shouldn't be too hard to add.
