Of course this was only a general inquiry, and it was not intended that you 
should make a tarball only for me. It's just that I know some projects that 
release nightly tarballs and since it can be automated it's not a great 
deal and makes trying out the latest stuff alot easier for novices, 
especially for projects that are in constant evolution. Regarding the other 
suggestion, I already tried cvsing from a Windows machine, but my problem 
were that +x access rights are not preserved. But I guess I should look 
into that again.
