FYI I'm running rtlinux3.0 under 2.2.18 which seems a good place to be
right now.   6.2 redhat base.

under 2.x, I seem to recall the needed to reserve memory to be
available for shared memory to work.
do you have a statement like
append="mem=63m" 
in your lilo.conf file for the kernel you are running?  
Plan is to reserve a meg for shared space. nn should be ~ 1
less than your ram.
