as Ray mentioned, my experiments with the simio module
indicate that the various parallel port pins are never read.
Its just for full-pretend bench work. 

try to change the line in your inifile to
EMCIO =                 bridgeportio
; EMCIO =               minimillio
; EMCIO =               simio

for me, simio ignores the port.
bridgeport needs 2 parallel ports, but works
minimillio seemed to get by with one, I should try it again.

I suggest you swap the line and see if it does better then.
Note if some pins are in the wrong state - it won't start untilo
inverted.
