Don't worry about it.  EMC writes to the port address directly, so it
doesn't really matter if the kernel thinks it's there or not (from the
being able to print to it sense).

What you need is to get the address for the port to put in emc.ini. You
can probably find that in the windows control panels... there are also
other tricks for finding it out using debug that I can look up for you
if you are really stuck.  Once you get emc up, if the motors won't
move open up the parallel port test and stick some LED's in the port +
leads to pin (1-8) and - lead to pin 25.
