Hmm. Did the patch apply ok ? Did you make "make mrproper && make dep" before
compiling the kernel ? Here are the steps I needed to compile it:

(in /usr/src/linux)
1. copy old .config to safe place, say "oldconfig.cfg"
2. "make mrproper"
3. copy oldconfig.cfg to ".config" and run "make menuconfig"
4. exit menuconfig after possible changes and do "make dep"
5. "make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install"
6. reboot
