My message got a little muddled with the part about "shutting down incessantly..."  Assuming it's Paul: did you have an STG or STG2 card installed and/or were you running in sim mode or with one of the STG.o, STG2.o, STG8.o configurations?  It's been a while since I've really looked at it (darn this real job!), so I don't remember all off the top of my head.  A majority of my work was on 2.2.14 - rtl2.2, STG2 and that's where I saw the "degradation."
