Re[1]: emc & rtlinux questions and suggestions

hello;

actually, there are at least six different pieces
of software being merged to work together.

1. glibc (this is separate from gnu gcc)
2. gnu compiler
3. linux kernel (2.0.38, 2.2.x, 2.4.x)
4. rtlinux
5. emc
6. rcslib
7. moving from a 32 bit to 64 bit platform.

the dialemma is that rtlinux-2.2 does not support
the alpha platform. rtlinux-3.0-pre8 supports the
alpha platform. in order to use rtlinux-3.0-pre8
the linux kernel needs to be 2.4.0-test1. (that
is what the fsmlabs.com people keep saying.)
linux-2.4.0-test1 is not stable on the alpha platform,
linux-2.4.0-test9 has many changes in arch/alpha files
that improve the stability of the linux kernel on the
alpha platform.

i have yet to get either linux-2.4.0-test1 or
linux-2.4.0-test9 to work with rtlinux-3.0-pre8 on
the alpha platform.

i have been in contact with the rtlinux people at
fsmlabs.com in an attempt to either obtain their
help or give them help. this has met with mixed
results. i have sent them several e-mails this
weekend and i am waiting on a reply from them.

a secondary dialemma is that once linux-2.4.0 is
released and new emc/rcslib users will be wanting
to run on the new linux kernel release. linux-2.4.0
includes usb and firewire support. it will not be
long before the used computer market starts seeing
computers with usb & firewire.
