mbuff ??

I got 07-Jun-2000 EMC running on RH 5.2 - 2.0.36 with help from Tim and
Brian on 9/7,  a few days before you posted the mbuff problem. I loaded
backplot1.tgz the next day and played. Then on 9/9, I loaded the
May12rev.tgz  as per the .txt instructions. I couldn't get Backplot.run to
bring up anything but a blank GUI window. I could get the Backplot window
from Tkemc. In the process, I was in and out of Xedit with the  *.ini and
program files about a hundred times - give or take - -( I only had two
terminal windows open ).  The editor got slow - the text was un-readable as
I scrolled. The mouse movement was erratic in Tkemc. There is a small box on
the RH Desktop ( lower right ) that has a graph that I believe indicates CPU
usage. This was a solid black block. I thought I messed up the installation
so I did an rm -rf * from my /nist directory and started over with the
07-Jun install. I was surprised to see the symptoms that I experienced
spelled out in your posting the following day.  I was logged in as root when
this occurred.

I repeated the backplot1 install. The GUI worked until I did May12rev.  I
really haven't tried to get the Backplot GUI running on the fresh install of
the May12rev. ( it still brings up a small, blank window ) and, so far, the
system runs OK. I don't know if this was the same problem as the mbuff ?? -
but the symptoms were sure the same.

BTW, are there any other updates for the Backplot GUI ? As I recall, the
program edit function would bring up the NC program files up as read only. I
had been working with these same files in Xedit with no problems.
I like the layout of Backplot screen.
