Nice to hear that you didn't encounter any Y2K problems, but the worm and viruses warning I have seen, - looks spooky.
I still try to work out this tclVogle puzzle, and I have also created a special situation.
How do you do program development in UNIX ?
I have had several problems before, and it seems quit common that you
install programs under the /usr/local directory. Because
of various problems before, I have tried something else.
I have a user called program, and the "home" - is /home/program
So now I have installed the programs I work with under /home/program/local,
- which rises new problems of course. But my
question is, - how do they do this on large systems ? Say
at universities, and "old" unix ( many shared a machine ) ?
For several good reasons, I don't like to "play" with programs
in the /usr directory. So how can you duplicate this environment,
to a user home ?
Some may wonder why I would like this, but I have had several
problems with "wrong" versions of libraries and programs, and
I also have picked up a lot of wrong header files, etc. In short
- made a mess :)
Any good ideas and recommendations ?
