Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Re: Position counter stop updating....Still there....

Hi forum
Following is the message that we sent to servo2go

Dear Sir,

We are using this STG-II board for Enhanced Machine
Controller (EMC) to
control our milling machine. we are having trouble to
successfully
run STG-II with EMC.
The problem we are facing is that the position
counters in EMC stop updating,
when we run stg2diag in linux we see continues
errornous counts getting
generated after some random period of time which is
around 0 to 10 seconds

following is the respone of stg2diag utility:

[root-at-localhost bin]# stg2diag
Servo To Go Board IO address = 0x200
         +1.000 +1.000 -2.000

         +1.000 -3.000 -65538.000
         +1.000 -3.000 -2.000

     +65537.000 -131075.000 -258.000
         +1.000 -3.000 -2.000
         +1.000 -3.000 -65538.000

Looking at this response we see big errornous values
after which
the next value is same as before the erroronous value.

Due to this problem the position counters in EMC stop
updating
they just stuck.
we have been trying to fix this problem as per advices
and reccomendations
form most helpful members of CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO yahoo
group and nist
mailing list.
You may view the history of our problems being faced
regarding counter
stuck problem in EMC usnder the SUBJECT: "Position

)

with messages posted using riet91-at-yahoo.com email

In short almost all the advices we have received have
concluded that
the problem stays with the STG-II board itself.

Following is the recomendation we recently had from a

Babar,

I was talking to STG engineers on another matter today
and mentioned
the problem you were having. They confirm that with
some motherboards
and some slots there indeed can be an internal noise
problem with
the counter. Some motherboards also have a higher than
standard
buss frequency which can also cause the problem.
They confirm that you should try a different ISA slot
or
a different computer. They also said to check the PLD
chip on the
card- that is the biggest square i.c. near the back
connector.
Check to see if it has a paper sticker on it. If the
slot or computer
change does not help you should call or e-mail them
and they will help
you to get it working.

after reading this suggestion from Mr. Les we looked
at our STG-II
board to see the pressence of the paper sticker that
your engineers
have asked to check, but we didnt found any such
paper sticker on The XILINX PLD chip(that is the
biggest square i.c. near the
back connector)!

We had tried the EMC on two different machines:
i) Pentium -II,400 MHz
ii) Pentium III, 733MHz,
also STG-II was put in different available ISA slots.

We also tried the restore setup defaults option found
in the BIOS of the
Systems as suggested by Mr. Jon Elson

We request you to please help us and solve this
problem on urgent basis

Thanking you in anticipation
regards
Babar
