Will emc work for me?

I have a 3-axis CNC router with a PC-based control using a Galil DMC-1000 card. Galil has started to see the light and has released Linux "drivers" (what ever that means) for several controllers. The Galil card is connected to Yaskawa servo amps which drive Yaskawa servos, and a Motortronics VFD running a 3hp Columbo spindle.

The current setup runs, as I like to say, in spite of Windows 95.
The control software is orphaned, source code not available, and it's buggy.

I would dearly like to dump W95 and the control software then run the machine on Linux, but I'm not entirely sure of what would be required.
Will emc work with the Galil card?
I am under the impression that the present control software translates G-code into the commands used by the Galil card.
If this is true, then a replacement interpreter would be required, correct?
Does such a thing exist or would it need to be written?
Am I barking up the wrong tree?
