This is the way I usually input data into a CAD programme but the thing
which I couldn't get along without and which is the mainstay of most CAD
programmes is the 'snap' feature where you can draw one part and then
get the next one to snap exactly to some feature on it or you can start
a new line from a feature on an existing line (end, middle, nearpoint,
perpendicular etc.) without having to remember exactly what co-ordinates
this would be. Using a text-based system I find it difficult to design
straight onto the screen and have to make initial paper sketches and
dimensional notes - more work overall than if I used a drawing board,
paper and pen! Also, with a programme such as Rhino, designing in 3D is
pretty easy as you can see the spatial relationships of each line as it
is drawn in the multiple viewports.
