Re: a hangup
Fred,
I'm still on the 17-Feb-1999 version of EMC. I had another odd problem
occur with xemc. I finished a part, and walked away to take a break.
When I came back, xemc was totally frozen, it didn't respond to any
keypress or mouse action. If you occluded the xemc window, when
you clicked on it to bring it to the foreground, it didn't redraw any
of the variable parts of the display. Since it was late, and restarting
emc would mean resetting the reference position of the fixture, I
decided to give up for the night, and just killed xwindows with the
ctrl-alt-backspace. This brought everything down except the
real time modules. The servo amps were still on, and the system
was still holding machine position. Fortunately, I have a hardware
E-stop button. Maybe this is normal behavior since I didn't run
the shutdown script. Anyway, I never had these sort of hangups with
keystick.
One other question - the new versions of EMC that are under the
2.0.36 directory, are they compatible with 2.0.32, or do I need to
upgrade the Linux kernel before using these new files?
Thanks,
Jon
