How big a machine are you talking about?
5000 Watt driveas are fairly substantial - For that size my employer uses
AC Brushless drive from Rexroth Indramat - programable - stepper, servo,
indexer (would make a good spindle motor too...) though they are a bit
pricy - somewhere around $3500 / axis. They have some smaller units (500
watt) that go for $1500.
