once you get the system configured and all of the
packages you want installed and working be sure to boot back 
into windows and make a new Zip file of the linux directory

then the next time something goes badly you can just 
reboot to windows ,blow the linux directory away 
and unzip a fresh working copy in a known state

this is why I use Zipslack for tinkering/developement work 
instead of my regular desktop system
