Re: BDI on Windows Drive
Hi all.
I share win31/DOS with linux by installing them on separate hard disks, linux to hdb.
I did this awhile ago, so I forget the details, but as I recall ...
I UNPLUGED the micro$oft hdd during the BDI install to hdb, so no problem.
Having a linux boot disk for /dev/hdb(5) is necessary. Boot with it afterwards,
then change /etc/lilo.conf to 'boot=/dev/hda' and do lilo to install the MBR on hda ...
File /etc/lilo.conf:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
default=dos
other=/dev/hda1
label=dos
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.18-rtl3.0
label=linux
read-only
root=/dev/hdb5
append="mem=31m"
A similar procedure shares winME with SUSE 7.1 on another box,
SUSE is nice enough to install on hdb without worrying about hda.
Windows is kept happy with all of hda to itself except the MBR.
BDI 2.09 has several deficiencies, overwriting windows by default, starting sendmail (!),
a broken samba, etc. It's wise to have a standard Redhat Linux distribution CD
and a standard running linux box to get out of trouble.
Hope This Helps -- krb
