Re: newbie question

Basically what he wants to know is what G & M codes does it use, What kind of precision and what format do numbers have to be in - (do you use 1.25, or 1.2500 or 12500 to represent 1 - 1/4 inches) what codes are used for cutting arcs, and can you use full full circle arcs, or do you have to use only quadrant arcs,  how do you do 3 axis moves, is it a true 3 axis, or is it 2 - 1/2 axis.

Can you get him to give you a document that needs to be filled in for all the codes that the post needs to understand. I have worked with several companies that needed this kind of information and you don't need everything thay are asking for - just the functions that apply to your machine.

Subject: newbie question

I was wondering if someone can point me in the right directon, about what post processor to use for EMC.  We are using surfcam to develop the paths.   We are trying to upgrade an old Emco tabletop 3 axis mill and Emco Lath.  We hope to add a 4th axis to the mill.

This is the response I got back from the surfcam rep when I asked him about post processors:
"I need more information about you're machine, like is it Word address programming? Many Machine tool manufactures have different controls on them, What kind of control is an "EMC"? Can you send a posted code for 2d ribs?"

Thanks for any help
