I retrofitted a Tree Mill (Journeyman 200?) some time ago with an
Allen Bradley 8400, so I "may" be able to help.
On the left side of the machine (or the side with the disconnect) should be
the mill's drive boards. If memory serves me correctly they are Servo
Dynamics drives. If they are Servo Dynamics, keep them, for those drives
are rock solid. Baldor makes replacement drive boards. Like Ray, I would
like to see some photos of the existing electronics. If your Tree Mill
electronics are anything like the one I tossed out I can understand why you
want to retrofit. We had more downtime than up. The Tree Mill Electronics
used a one-bit processor (Motorola) with some gawd-awful bucket brigade
serial chips. E-mail me direct if you think this might be off topic here.
We still run our Tree Mill in our Tool Room. It had good iron, bad
electronics.
