Servo vs Stepper

Hello all,

     I am on the verge of getting a machine working, and I can't decide between
stepper motors, and servo motors.
For me the cost won't be much different, since I already have some AC brushless
servo motors, and amplifiers. If I use servos then I still need to buy a STG
card, If I use steppers, I need to buy stepper motors, and stepper
drivers(gecko drives).So, is a servo system with EMC faster than a stepper
system with EMC? I have read a lot of questions on this list from people with
stepper systems, and it makes me think that either stepper systems are a lot
more common, or stepper systems are more resource and cpu hungry than servo
systems. If anyone has any experience with both stepper motors, and servo
motors running under EMC I would like to hear about it.
