stepping motors and freqmod

I am getting an oscillation on the last digit when using freqmod and
stepping_type = 1.
Should I be setting some other values to stop this?
I have tried different values of output/input scale and ferror but no luck.

Can anyone help? Maybe a pointer to some documentation?
