What it was all about is that I am setting up a small 6 axis Milling Machine (see
jpg) using emc.
I have 3 Students that are going to work on this. I will also have to make the
machine run with another NC made by ISG. What i was thinking of is to make one
student hae a closer look at communication between NC and HMI
(Human-Machine-Interface), because the other NC has certain problems in this. I
thought they could learn something fron EMC as the tkemc seems to run quite well.
Now it seems the most useful thing for the Student and for ISG is to use Visual
Basic. ISG has made a DLL that can be used to get access to the data from the NC.
As we (here in Stuttgart) are more living in a Microsoft world, this seems to be the
most natural thing to do. TCL-TK might be good, too, but i have no experience with
it and have not found appropriate tools to build applications in a handy way.
Nevertheless, the comm principles described by Fred and Will are interesting and the
student might like to discuss this.
