It could be a LOT.  If you use 5 V supply and a 4 V motor, you are only getting
about 1 volt to overcome the inductance of the motor.  That could limit the
motor to tens of steps a second before the torque goes practically to
zero.  It might take you a LONG time to mill those first boards!
