Connect a resistor (1000 - 10000 ohms is a good value) from the open
collector pins on the parallel port to +5Vdc from the PC's power supply. Take
the step and direction outputs from the parallel port pins as before, only
now they will switch from +5Vdc to 0Vdc as you would expect.
