Hi
A while back we had a brief discussion on running EMC with a user other
than root. I'm working on a handbook page that describes that procedure.
You can review my progress on that page at:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/handbook/faq/faqemcsafe.html
I wanted to prove the procedure so I set up a Linux group named
operator and an operator named ray. But I couldn't get it to run. (same
messages as below)
So I made an entire EMC install (June 7) as ray, copied over my personal
run and ini file, and set permissions as Fred indicated in his post
quoted in the url above. But when I run it, I get the following feedback.
[ray-at-localhost emc]$ ./tk.run
Current platform is linux_2_2_14
Current real-time platform is rtlinux_2_2
inivar = plat/linux_2_2_14/bin/inivar
INIFILE = tk.ini
starting emc...
starting freqmod.o...done
starting minimillio...done
starting minimilltask...done
running tkemc...
open failed: Permission denied
mbuff_alloc failed.
emctaskmain.cc 2055: can't initialize IO
open failed: Permission denied
emcsh.cc 4079: can't connect to emc
[ray-at-localhost emc]$
Thinking there was an error in the setup, I ran it as root and it worked
okay. I noticed that ownership, group, and permissions for the ini and
var files seem to get changed to reflect the current usr - but not always.
Got a clue?
Ray
