Why are you attempting to apply a patch to a PREPATCHED kernel?
That should mean it has already been done!

The problems I had run into with earlier kernels was that Red Hat modifies
some of the kernel .h files, so the patches are not compatible with them.
Apparently, putting the original kernel .h files back, by downloading them from
the Linux web site, allows the kernel to be patched correctly, and doesn't
cause any problems with Red Hat, either.  I do not know what the differences
are.
