Re: linux 2.2.13 and EMC, does anybody have instructions for a li nux newbie?

Even for 2.0.36, the text is not correct, it tasks about rtlinux-0.5a
which is not correct anymore. Further it talks only about emcpanel, not
how to start any of the graphical interfaces, and which of them. The
discription really needs an update.

Yes, it sure does. I'm working on a description of what each of the
controllers and GUIs does, but I don't have details on how to install
Linux 2.2.13 or RT Linux 2.0, other than what we did:

1. Get Red Hat 6.1.
2. Configure X Windows, networking, etc. which can either be easy or a
real pain depending on your hardware.
3. Get the prepatched 2.2.13 kernel from New Mexico Tech.
4. Compile and install the patched kernel.

Some of you have built standalone EMCs that use the stepper motor
controller, so that it should run right out of the box on all machines
with no .ini file editing for Linux 2.2 kernels that don't need the
SHMEM_BASE_ADDRESS and lilo.conf "append=XXX" stuff. Can these be put on
the drop box?
