I did look into this before I learned about EMC.  It is nice,  but expensive. 
It is not  easy to make "homebrew" systems,  -  so  this gave some trouble. 
( IMO )   The servo motors is "intelligent"  with a lot of functions that would
be a lot of work to make yourself.   Ready made systems look too expensive.
