How to enable freqmod for steppers?

I just downloaded and installed the 24-jan-2000 build of EMC and wanted to
try it with the new frequency generator module. I thought the text file for
the build was indicating that you did this by changing the line in your run
file that referenced steppermod.o to freqmod.o

I tried this and EMC was unable to start and then I ran into the dreaded
unable to remove a module syndrome.

Can anyone that has successfully gotten EMC to fun with freqmod step me
through the hoops?
