RE: FPGA for PCI based servo control board



I looked at a lot of fpgas to use for PCI interfacing.  I came down to the
notion that only the Xilinx Spartan II made sense.
The Spartan II has 3.3 and 5 v i/o, and thus is 5v pci compatible.  The Spartan
IIE only has 3.3v i/o.
You can develop for the Spartan II with the webpack tools that are free from
xilinx.  There is a guy that sells xilinx parport download cables on ebay for
$15.  Net cost for Spartan II development: $15.  Also, the opencores pci core
can be compiled using the xilinx webpack tools. 

Of course I could be ignoring something.
