Re: Handbook info - EMC distributions

Good news, Bill.

I installed it here tonight and it went okay. Crashed a couple of times
because I was overclocking the old K62-400. Set it back and everything seems
to be working okay.

Now for the Sourceforge setup. You will need to contact Will at NIST and ask
him to put you on as a developer. Once he does that you are about ready to
go to work on the software and/or the documents.

The TNG installs CVS the concurrent versioning system that sourceforge uses.
It also installs SSH the secure shell software. You will need to create a
key that can be used by Sourceforge to confirm your identity and machine. To
do this type in the following command

ssh-keygen

and after a few seconds it will ask where you want to keep the key. It
suggests a location and you can accept that by pressing <enter>. Then it
asks for a passphrase. I'd enter something. It will ask for the passphrase
again. When it accepts your passphrase it will create the key and store it
in an invisible directory .ssh in your home directory. Don't do this as root
because you will have to log into the internet with this user.

Once you've got the key and are able to log into sourceforge you will be
asked to take a developer survey. Then you can add the EMC project to your
home page.
